Connections Counselling & Psychotherapy
Face-to-face Counselling and Psychotherapy We are happy to have an initial consultation with anyone who is committed to working through their problems with us. We counsel people with a range of relationship and personal problems including:

difficult relationships, coping with divorce, pre-marriage problems, sexual difficulties, abuse (mental, physical, sexual, spiritual), living with difficult relations (including parents and children), assertiveness, stress, loss, grief, redundancy, depression, difficult decision making, addictions, anger, aggression, conflict, infertility, sexuality, self-image, eating disorders, obsessions (OCD), personality disorders, dependency, avoidance, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

We offer a variety of counselling approaches but are committed to starting where the clients are and to working in a way which they feel comfortable with. Broadly speaking we adopt person-centred and cognitive approaches.

Most of our clients come once a week or once a fortnight. Some come for between four and ten sessions; others come for a much longer period. You are in control. You attend the number of counselling sessions that seems best for you.

Couple Counselling and Psychotherapy When relationships become boring or difficult it is sometimes tempting to ignore the problem or to walk away. Some couples want to try to face the issues and attempt to resolve them. People come for couple counselling for a range of issues such as repetitive arguments, feelings of distance or emptiness in the relationship, pervasive feelings of anger, resentment and or dissatisfaction or lack of interest in affection or in a physical relationship with one another. Couples that come for therapy usually find that they are able to benefit from coming together and working with a professional to help them begin to do things differently and to gain insights into what is happening between them.
Telephone Counselling and Psychotherapy For clients who find it difficult or impossible to travel to us, this may be a possible alternative to, or support for face-to-face counselling. We would agree a date and time for you to call us for a telephone session. Please visit Dial A Counsellor, our Phone Counselling and Psychotherapy site for details. We are happy to work with both individuals and couples by phone. Please note this is not an emergency helpline. Counselling sessions would need to be booked in advance. We can supply either a UK or a US number for you to call and offer international conferencing facilities.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is a way of working with clients that has recently received a lot of positive attention in the press, has received significant government funding promoting it, and has a large research base behind it demonstrating it can be very effective. James Rye has trained in using cognitive therapies (Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) via the Alert Ellis Institute in New York, and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) at the University of East Anglia). For more information on CBT and on whether it might be right for you, have a look at our sister site CBT Counselling.
